Daniel writes, "In August of 2007 I was approached
by Kelly Neal, children’s director at Fair Haven Christian Church
in Trafalgar, Indiana, to dress up as a mad scientist and
perform science experiments to teach biblical principals to
elementary school kids as part of our between services ministry. Being a biologist
myself, I starting thinking about all the really interesting
experiments that I observed in my years of schooling and I became
excited to investigate how to perform these experiments myself.
My goal was simple: I wanted an experiment that would be
fascinating, memorable, and that the kids most likely have never
seen before. But the most important part was to have a biblical
message that stood stronger than the science experiment. So, my
quest began. I made a commitment to both the church and to God
to perform one object lesson monthly. To that end, I spent one
month doing the research and writing each object lesson. I
wrote each lesson down as if others would perform them, as it is the
plan to teach others to perform these experiments as part of an
outreach program at the church. At the end of each month, the
object lesson was performed in front of 20 to 30 kids and changes
were made to fine-tune each object lesson for future mad
scientists."
